ECO FASHION WEEK AFRICA x SDG GOAL #1

The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of "No Poverty," which is the first of the 17 Global Goals, aims to end poverty in all its forms everywhere.

Eco Fashion Week Africa, by promoting sustainable fashion, can contribute to the goal of "No Poverty" in several ways:

Supporting Local Artisans and Craftsmen

This standout piece during the Tribal Chic event in Nairobi was created by a designer from Eco Fashion Week Africa’s event. Dasi Hussein, a highly esteemed fashion stylist in Kenya graced Eco Fashion Week Africas’ ‘No New Clothes Runway’ in November 2023, where he forged a connection with a student designer Cadonie who took part in EFWA event as an upcoming student designer. It’s heartening to witness Cadonie’s evolution from a mainstream student designer to one who not only comprehends sustainability but is also capable of earning a livelihood through it and creating meaningful connection.

ECO FASHION WEEK AFRICA x SDG GOAL #1

Our founder, Belinda Smetana, mentored the designer during the 'Call for Designers' day at Delight Fashion School.

By showcasing and celebrating the work of local designers and artisans, Eco Fashion Week Africa can provide them with a platform to reach a wider market, helping to secure sustainable incomes and improve their standard of living.

Empowerment Through Skill Development

Eco fashion week africa

We offer workshops and learning opportunities during the week which we believe can equip individuals with the skills needed to enter the fashion industry, opening up additional pathways out of poverty.

Volunteers needed

We are not funded by any organisation and depend on volunteers to help mentor people interested in navigating their way into conscious fashion. If you are in a position to offer your skills, kindly join us on our next season. Write to info@ecofashionweekafrica.com Our past season threading day was done by our Co-founder Dolly of Dolly The Seamstress, Janet from Threading Change, and Julie from Dear Textile.

Economic Growth

Our aim is to not only draw attention to African fashion but also use the event to target the often left out talented designers. We provide exposure and platform for these designers to be noticed either by well established designers or by well known stylists. This potentially leads to more jobs and increased incomes for families.

Join us in making SDG goals achievable on the 2024 season EFWA
