Eligibility Criteria & Submission Guidelines
Sustainability Commitment
- Designs must align with Eco Fashion Week Africa’s vision of zero-waste, ethical, or circular fashion.
- Applicants must incorporate upcycling, recycling, slow fashion, or sustainable textile sourcing.
No New Clothes Policy (for the No New Clothes Challenge segment)
- Designers must use repurposed, second-hand, deadstock, or organic materials.
- Absolutely no newly manufactured fabrics unless they are certified sustainable (e.g., organic, regenerative, or biodegradable textiles).
Innovative Craftsmanship & Cultural Relevance is encouraged
- Collections that reflect African heritage, craftsmanship, and innovation.
- Use of handwoven, indigenous, or traditional techniques (batik, kitenge, kente, etc.)
Zero-Waste or Circular Design Techniques
- Patterns should minimize fabric waste through thoughtful cutting, draping, or reconstruction.
- Preference for modular, multi-use, or adaptable clothing designs.
Ethical & Fair Production Practices
- Designers must uphold fair labor practices, supporting artisans, communities, or small-scale workshops.
- Transparency about who makes the clothes and how they are produced is required.
Runway-Ready Collection (5-10 Looks)
- Applicants must submit a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 complete outfits.
- The collection should be cohesive, well-constructed, and suitable for a fashion runway.
Application Portfolio
- A short statement on the inspiration behind the collection and sustainability approach.
Designer Bio & Brand Philosophy
- A brief background on the designer or brand, including experience, sustainability values, and creative vision.
- Social media links, website, or past press coverage (if available).
Availability & Participation Commitment
- Designers must be available to attend Eco Fashion Week Africa in November (physically or send a representative).
- Commitment to styling models, preparing collections, and engaging in media coverage.
Collaboration & Media Features
- Selected designers must agree to participate in interviews, photoshoots, and media activities to promote the event.
- Willingness to engage with sponsors, partners, and potential buyers for networking opportunities.
