Revolutionizing the Fashion Industry: Eco Fashion Week Africa Volume 1 in Kenya

Date: 20 – 26 Nov 2023

Eco Fashion Week Africa is thrilled to announce its first week.

In collaboration with Cleanup Kenya for the first edition, we aim to revolutionize the fashion landscape by showcasing the immense potential of eco-conscious fashion in Africa. With a strong focus on promoting sustainable practices, empowering local artisans, and fostering inclusive representation, this event stands at the forefront of positive change within the fashion industry.

With an unparalleled lineup of a runway shows, educational workshops, panel discussions, and interactive experiences, guests will have the opportunity to witness the transformative power of eco-fashion firsthand.

“At Eco Fashion Week Africa, we believe that the world does not need another ordinary Fashion Week. It’s time for Fashion week to revolve around tackling global textile waste and not producing new clothes for the runway,” said (Founder Belinda Smetana)
the visionary force behind the event.

“Our mission is to create a Fashion Week where the power of fashion is harnessed to leave a positive imprint on our society and the planet. This is not just a fashion week; it’s a movement towards a greener future.”

Featured designers, both established and emerging, will captivate audiences with their few collections that does not focus on the production of new materials. Each piece tells a story of mindful craftsmanship, incorporating  materials that already exist or are enviromentaly friendly and are produced under fair trade practices.

Eco Fashion Week Africa goes beyond the runway, engaging attendees in thought-provoking discussions and impactful workshops. Experts, influencers, and industry leaders will gather to share their insights on sustainable fashion, circular economy practices, and the potential for Africa to become a global leader in eco-fashion.

As part of its commitment to community engagement, Eco Fashion Week Africa has organized intergenerational events and activities that are accessible to people from all walks of life. From clothes swaps to upcycling tutorials, these inclusive initiatives aim to educate and empower individuals to make sustainable choices and participate in cleaning up textile waste.

To further highlight the importance of textile waste reduction, a key focus area for this year’s event, attendees will witness fashion pieces created entirely from recycled materials. These clothes will be part of the runway and will serve as a visual reminder of the impact of fashion on the environment and the power of creative solutions.

Eco Fashion Week Africa would not be possible without the support of its sponsors, partners, and dedicated volunteers. Their commitment to sustainability and social responsibility exemplifies the spirit of the event and reinforces the collective effort required to drive lasting change in the fashion industry.
