ECO FASHION WEEK AFRICA x SDG GOAL #1
Sustainable Development Goal
The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of “No Poverty,” which is the first of the 17 Global Goals, aims to end poverty in all its forms everywhere.
Eco Fashion Week Africa, by promoting sustainable fashion, can contribute to the goal of “No Poverty” in several ways:
INCLUSIVITY
This standout piece during the Tribal Chic event in Nairobi was created by a designer from Eco Fashion Week Africa’s event. Dasi Hussein, a highly esteemed fashion stylist in Kenya graced Eco Fashion Week Africas’ ‘No New Clothes Runway’ in November 2023, where he forged a connection with a student designer Cadonie who took part in EFWA event as an upcoming student designer. It’s heartening to witness Cadonie’s evolution from a mainstream student designer to one who not only comprehends sustainability but is also capable of earning a livelihood through it and creating meaningful connection.

Eco Fashion Week Africa highlights and celebrates the talent of local designers and artisans, offering them a platform to reach a broader audience. This exposure helps secure sustainable incomes and enhances their standard of living.

Empowerment Through Skill Development
We offer workshops and learning opportunities during the week which we believe can equip individuals with the skills needed to enter the fashion industry, opening up additional pathways out of poverty.

Economic Growth
Our aim is to not only draw attention to African fashion but also use the event to target the often left out talented designers. We provide exposure and platform for these designers to be noticed either by well established designers or by well known stylists. This potentially leads to more jobs and increased incomes for families.
