Eco Fashion Week x SDG #13 CLIMATE ACTION
EFWA addresses SDG 13
Eco Fashion Week Africa Vol 1 & 2 addressed SDG 13, which focuses on taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, through several related strategies. Here’s how the event created a meaningful impact on Climate Action:
Sustainable Materials
The fashion showcased during the week was themed NO NEW CLOTHES. We prioritize the use of existing fabrics on the runway. This has a lower carbon footprint compared to conventional fabrics.
Each designer is invited to embrace the art of transformation, channeling their creativity into birthing new designs from pre-existing garments. In this endeavor, they are urged to steer clear of utilizing any chemical processes, thereby ensuring an eco-conscious approach to fashion that honors the environment. This not only celebrates the ingenuity of design but also fosters a sustainable fashion industry that thoughtfully conserves resources and upholds the ethos of a greener planet.
Activities promoting SDG 13 during the week
- Tree planting
- Community cleanup
- Climate Change educational talks and workshops
- Clothes swapping events to discourage overconsumption
